Bert is a MS/PhD track student. He received a B.A. in Pre-Engineering with a minor in Computer Science from Ursinus College (summa cum laude, salutatorian) in 2019, and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University in 2020 through a joint program between the schools. He held an internship at Comcast Corporation (2019) and worked at L3Harris Technologies (2020-2021). An electric vehicle (EV) enthusiast, Bert was the second Chief Electrical Engineer of Columbia University Formula Racing’s budding EV project and continues to support the team (2018-2021). Bert was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, and grew up in Pottstown, Pennsylvania.
Research interests include control optimization for various inverter topologies, permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSM), wound rotor synchronous machines (WRSM), and induction motors for electrified transportation and grid technologies.
